Hundred Polio patient operated at a free camp

Puri,Dec 6 (UNI) Over a hundred polio affected and physically handicapped children were operated in a camp by a 20 member team of orthopedic surgeons from PNRS society of Gujurat.

The team comprising four orthopedic specialists and two anesthetists besides Ooeration Theatre (OT) assistants had conducted corrective surgery free of cost at the camp which was concluded here today.

Of the 400 odd polio affected children within five to fourteen years age group with disability identified during the survey,about hundred were chosen through a screening test for the operation.

The extra operation theatre (OT) of the local Gopabandhu Ayurved medical college was converted into a modern OT with all the facilities to conduct the surgery.

Patients and their parents were provided with free accommodation and free food in the medical college campus for three days.

Chief Coordinator as well as the team leader C M Vyas said he was overwhelmed by the exemplary support of the locals and the officials who worked through the night to make the camp a success.

He said till today 570 camps were organised in various states of the country where as many as 80,000 surgery had been completed.
