Ahmedabad, Dec 6 (UNI) Defence Minister A K Antony will witness a Fire Power Demonstration (FPD) at Pokhran's air-to-ground range on December 8.
During his day-long visit to Jaisalmer, a forward airbase of South Western Air Command, he will also witness a static display of the latest aircraft and equipment of the Indian Air Force (IAF).
The FPD would showcase the skills of the IAF pilots in precision delivery of 'air-to ground' weapons. The FPD, held after a span of nearly 4 years, encapsulates among other things, the IAF's lethal strike capability from an array of weapon delivery platforms and modern weapon systems.
More than 50 aircraft of the IAF including two Mig-21 variants (Type-96 and Bisons), Mirage-2000, SU-30 MKI, MIG-27 variants, Mi-35 and Mi-17 IV helicopters and AN-32 transport aircraft, supported by unmanned aerial vehicles and a host of ground radars with a maze of communication facilities, will participate in the demonstration.
Showcasing the prowess of the IAF, the FPD is also meant to aid planners in gaining better insight into the employment options of aerial weapons and skill levels of its air warriers, an official said.
