Verdict in Jayakumar case deferred to Dec 14

Puducherry, Dec 5 (UNI) A local court today deferred the judgement in the Jayakumar murder case here to December 14.

The case came up before the Third Additional District Judge Arumugam as the Second Additional District judge Annamalai, dealing with the case, was on leave.

Twenty-three out of the 25 accused appeared before the court.

While an accused was indisposed and a petition citing the reason for his absence was filed by the counsel, another accused in the case was absconding.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jayakumar, an accused in the case, was chased by a gang on March 26, 2004 . When he entered the Mudaliarpet police station to save himself, the gang followed and hacked him to death. They also exploded a bomb inside the police station.

Police arrested 24 people in this connection, including Sankar alias Jayasanker of Ouppalam. While 12 people were still in prison, the remaining have already been granted bail.

The arugument in the case was over and the verdict was to be pronounced on November 20. However, the judge then deferred it to today.
