Tunneling process of Phase II of Delhi Metro starts
New Delhi, Dec 5 (UNI) The tunneling process of Phase II of Delhi Metro got underway at Malviya Nagar in south Delhi today.
The process began with the lowering of the first 135-tonne portion of a tunnel boring machine.
The lowering was done by a 450-tonne crane imported from Germany.
The operation, which began at 1030 hrs, was completed in 45 minutes.
The other two parts of the tunnel boring machine, weighing 65 tonnes, will be lowered by tomorrow and the machine will be assembled 15 m below the surface in a month after which it will start tunneling from Malviya Nagar towards Hauz Khas.
In Phase-II, 14 tunnel boring machines will be used in three lines -- Central Secretariat-Qutub Minar, Central Secretariat-Badarpur and the High Speed Airport.
