Chennai, Dec 5 (UNI) Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Secretary General Raja Randhir Singh today said if things fall in place, squash would be included in the Olympic Games ''very soon.'' Speaking after inaugurating the 21st ICL world men's team squash championships amidst tight security at a five star hotel here, he said the sport should have been in the last Games in Athens.
But due to some technical reasons it could not be done, he pointed out.
Mr Randhir Singh hailed the world class infrastructure for squash got up by the India Cements Limited(ICL) here which lifted the sport to almost mass level, said officials of the Delhi Development Corporation (DDC) would visit the academy.
The facilities here would be duplicated in Delhi for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, he announced.
Scretary General of Squash Rackets Federation of India(SRFI) N Ramachandran said the Federation has been gearing itself up since two years to host this event after the World Squash Federation (WSF) allotted the event to India at its meeting in Mauritius in 2005.
The world championship this year has attracted a record 29 countries, the highest so far, he also pointed out.
WSF technical delegate Peter Cock along with all the 29 teams in fray also participated in the function.
