Raj HC soughts explanation on supply of contaminated water

Jaipur,Dec 5 (UNI) Taking cognisance in the row over supply of contaminated water in certain walled city areas in Jaipur, the Rajasthan High Court has sought explanation from Chief Secretary, PHED Secretary and Jaipur District Collector.

High Court Judge Justice Ashok Kumar Parihar has issued notices to the officials treating the letter sent to the court by a citizen as a petition.

Complainant Mohan Lal Gurjar of Dausa had sent letter to the High Court seeking intervention in supply of "contaminated" water and to provide justice to the affected families.

Mr Gurjar told the court that a large number of people were affected by the water supply. Several had fallen sick and five people had so far died.

He prayed before the court to intervene, fix responsiblity of the minister concerned and officials and render justice to the victims.

It is to recall that the row over supply of contaminated water in certain walled city areas prevailed for some time and local people had held demonstrations and protests several times over the problem which had reportedly claimed five lives so far.

The state government had denied reports of deaths due to contaminatd water and maintained that the reported deaths were due to routine diseases or natural reasons.
