Pune, Dec 5 (UNI) In a bid to encourage the city-based sportspersons, the Pune International Marathon Trust (PIMT) announced cash incentives for the medal winners in the upcoming nine disciplines of the third 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG).
The Games will be held at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City, Balewadi, near here, from October 11 to 18 next year.
PIMT chairman and MP Suresh Kalmadi, who is also the president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), made the announcement yesterday after considering a fervent appeal of MLA Chandrakant Chhajed, a former Maharashtra minister for tourism, in this regard, a PIMT release said here.
With this, the sportspersons who belong to the host city and win gold, silver and bronze medals in the Games will receive cash awards of Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively, the release quoted its secretary-general Pralhad Sawant as saying.
The nine disciplines of sports include athletics, boxing, tennis, badminton, shooting, weightlifting, table tennis, swimming and wrestling. The last three disciplines have been added on the request by India.
Earlier, the government had also announced cash incentives of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 to the gold, silver and broze medal winners respectively from the state.
