Physiotherapy Council Bill introduced in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Dec 4 (UNI) Paramedical and Physiotherapy Central Council Bill, 2007 was introduced in Lok Sabha today, to constitute separate central councils for paramedical technologies, medical laboratory, radiology and physiotherapy, regulate and set uniform standards for education and development of new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in these areas.

Introducing the Bill, Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss said the aim of this Bill is to regulate and maintain standards of such education, maintenance of register of paramedics and physiotherapists, occupational therapists and information relating to these disciplines.

The setting up of separate councils has become necessary to keep pace with the advancement in medical science and daignostic and therapeutic techniques and also because there has been quantum jump in demand for paramedical personnel and physiotherapists, the Bill said.

''The Councils will be responsible, inter alia, for maintenance of uniform standards of education in respective disciplines and registration of qualified personnel for practising the profession,'' it added.
