Tiruchirapalli, Dec 5 (UNI) A team of six NCC cadets from Singapore including two girls, arrived here to carry out Community service activities for the next eight days at Uppukachipatti village in Karur district of Tamil Nadu..

The team headed by their Staff Officer Captain Leong John Woon, reached here yesterday as part of their ''Service Learning Project'' to serve in the village adopted by the Extension Department of the St Joseph's College here.

Official sources said the NCC cadets, who are here under a NCC Youth Exchange Programme, would carry out the activities along with a select group of their counterparts from St Joseph's College. The cadets would also involve themselves in the construction of a pre-school centre at Uppukachipatti, besides interacting with the locals, they added.

The sources said the cadets would carry out cleaning works, besides interacting with self-help group members and village youths.

Cap Leong said the aim of the visit was to enable the cadets to serve and learn, apart from sharing their experiences with their Indian counterparts.

Though it is their maiden visit to India, the NCC team from Singapore was visiting here for the fourth successive year to carry out Community service projects in the village adopted by the Extension Department of St Josephs College, the sources added.

Capt Leong said NCC cadets in Singapore would carry out service activities by mobilising funds for the children of prisoners and by organising certain challenging activities for the physically challenged children to motivate them. A team of Cadets had left for China under the Service Learning Project, he added.
