In principal approval for Del-Mumbai Industrial corridor

The
Centre
has
granted
in
principal
approval
to
the
development
of
the
Delhi
Mumbai
Industrial
Corridor
(DMIC)
and
work
on
it
will
begin
early
next
year,
the
Rajya
Sabha
was
informed
today.
In a reply during Question Hour, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Ashwini Kumar said the project, aimed at providing good quality industrial infrastructure in selected industrial nodes, is scheduled to be completed by the year 2012.
In phase I of the DMIC project, the Government has approved development of 12 industrial nodes in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra, the Minister said.
He said an Apex Monitoring Authority had been constituted by the Government with eight Central Ministers and Chief Ministers of UP, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra to provide overall guidance, planning and approvals.
A corporate entity "Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development corporation (DMICDC) with 49 per cent equity by the Government is envisaged for project development, coordination and financing wherever needed.
The Phase I of the project is scheduled to be completed in synchronisation with Delhi Mumbai Dedicated Rail Freight Corridor.
