Chandigarh, Dec 5 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to bear the expenditure of fees for those Scheduled Caste (SC) students who are desirous of seeking admission in Polytechnic or engineering colleges or self finance technical institutes of the state.
Stating this in a message on the eve of the 'Nirvan Diwas' of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the state government has been focusing on enhancing educational and socio-economic status of students belonging to weaker sections of the society.
He said Dr Ambedkar was a great educationist, an able administrator and a social reformer who was committed to the cause of weaker sections of the society.
The steps taken by Dr Ambedkar to ensure social justice to all has been the guiding spirit for the state government, he added.
Mr Hooda said the state government has already earmarked Rs 14.5 crore during the current financial year to bear the expenditure of fees of students belonging to Scheduled Castes.
The Chief Minister said the Planning Commission had approved an allocation of Rs 673 crore to the Haryana Department of Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes during the 11th Five Year Plan for implementation of various schemes of Technical Education.
