Constable dies in encounter with wanted outlaw, two rescued

Lucknow, Dec 5 (UNI) A Special Operation Group (SOG) constable of Uttar Pradesh police died during an encounter with dreaded dacoit Naresha of Dheevar gang, carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, at the Shahjahanpur district bordering Bareilly division this morning.

The SOG, however, succeeded in rescuing two abducted people from the clutches of the gangster.

''The encounter took place when the police was combing in Jalalabad area,'' Shahjahanpur Superintendent of Police Satendra Veer Singh told UNI on telephone.

Constable Yashveer Singh of Badaun became the target of a stray bullet after both the groups opened fire at each other during the encounter, the SP said, adding he died on the spot.

Kingpin Naresha, who managed to escape along with his aides, injured the two abducted by firing on their legs.

The critically wounded were admitted to a hospital, where the condition of the two is stated to be stable.

The terror of the dacoit gang exists in several districts of Bareilly, Kanpur and Lucknow division.

A hunt is on to nab the absconding kingpin.
