10 yr jail term to PAC jawan for killing 4

Varanasi, Dec 5 (UNI) A local court has handed down 10 years imprisonment to a PAC jawan for killing four persons, including three colleagues, here.

Hearing the case yesterday, Additional District Judge (ADJ) (V) A K Upadhyay found Ram Dhyan Prajapati guilty.

According to the prosecution, on February 28, 2005, 20th Battalion PAC jawan Ram Dhyan Prajapati had opened fire with his service revolver while returing from his duty at Vishvanath temple and Gyanvyapi.

Seven people had become the target of the indiscrimate firing, in which four, including Sunil Bhardvaj and three jawans -- Uma Shankar Rai, Prem Sagar Yadav, Umesh Kumar Singh -- had died on the spot.

Three other jawans -- Ram Surat Prasad, Jai Prakash Yadav and Sitaram Gaur -- were injured in the incident.

After this, Platoon commander had filed a case against Prajapti.
