Chennai, Dec 4 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government has recommended a CBI probe into the October 27 seizure of 2,000 tonnes of rice at Puducherry railway station.
The rice bags were allegedly smuggled from PDS outlets in Tamil Nadu.
As the case was registered in Puducherry and more than one state was involved in the issue, the government had recommended a CBI inquiry, taking into account the 'serious nature' of the case, an official release said here.
It said officials of the Food Cell wing of Tamil Nadu police had exchanged documents pertaining to the case with their Puducherry counterparts.
Following this, the Puducherry police had intensified their investigation and the state police was also continuing with its inquiry, it added.
The state government had sent a detailed report about the case to CBI Director Vijay Shankar on November 23 and sought a CBI inquiry.
It would also request the Puducherry Government to handover the case to the CBI, the release added.
