Security tightened up on Metro lines after terrorist threat

New Delhi, Dec 4 (UNI) Following a warning from security agencies about terrorist attacks in the Capital in the coming weeks, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has stepped up security on all its lines.

''A general terror alert has been sounded on all the stations of the Delhi Metro following the Intelligence Bureau issuing a warning about possible terrorist threats in the Capital in the coming weeks,''DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dyal said.

Accordingly, close circuit cameras have been installed to monitor incoming and outgoing passengers in the Metro stations.

Also station staff and controllers have been asked to be more vigilant.

In addition, more announcements through the Metro public address systems will be made to ask passengers to look out for any suspicious activity, Mr Dyal said.

Mr Dyal said the Central Industrial Security Force assigned for security of the metro rail network have deployed quick reaction teams to patrol all the three lines of the Delhi Metro.

Also, the frisking of passengers in the Metro coaches has been made more strict.

Besides the above measures, more Police Control Room vans have been deployed at the various metro railway stations.

''We are working closely with the CISF to ensure increased security at the stations,''Mr Dyal said.

Security at sensitive places like market places, malls, cinema halls IGI airport and railway stations has already been beefed up after the warning issued by the IB.
