Lucknow, Dec 4(UNI) The opposition parties today raised the issues of the problems of the sugarcane farmers and charged the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh with not implementing the announcements made in the House during the last six months.

The Samajwadi Party trouped into the well of the House, when the treasury bench refused to admit their lapses.

Speaker Sukhdeo Rajbhar also said that it was unfortunate that the announcements made by the government were not fulfilled on time.

Earlier, during the zero hour in the state Assembly, the opposition members said that after repeated promises made by the government to pay the dues of the sugarcane farmers, nothing had been done actually.

'' The sugarmills still owe Rs 1260 crore to the farmers and the mills are delaying in starting their mills in the current crushing season'', said SP member Naresh Agarwal.

The government had in the past during several occasions announced to take strict steps to ensure full payment to the sugarcane farmers.

State Parliamentary affairs minister Lalji Verma admitted that 90 per cent of the cane dues have been paid and only 10 per cent was left, which would be paid very soon.
