Pudukkottai, Dec 4 (UNI) Marumalarchi DMK Propaganda Secretary and party platform speaker Nanjil Sampath today surrendered before a local court in connection with a defamation case and was released on bail.

District and Principal Sessions Judge Jayasankaran, enlarging him on bail, directed him to appear before the court again on December 11.

Earlier, the Judge had directed him to remain in the court till the day's proceedings were over.

Mr Sampath surrendered before the court here as per the directions of the Madurai bench of Madras High Court.

The previous AIADMK Government had filed a defamation case against Mr Sampath in 2002 for his alleged defamatory remarks against the then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at a public meeting in Pudukkottai district. Despite repeated summons from the court, Mr Sampath had failed to appear before it, following which the court had issued an arrest warrant against him.
