By Staff

Mysore, Dec 4 (UNI) Karnataka made a valiant attempt for an outright victory but settled for a draw, managing to get a single point after dark horse Rajasthan threw a surprise with a first innings lead in the Elite Group A Ranji Trophy tie which ended here today.

Six-time champions Karnataka, requiring 196 for a win in 26 overs, could muster only 153 for two in 22 overs when the match was called off.

The run chase was led by dashing Robin Uthappa who struck 54 in 38 balls giving a ray of hope for Karnataka.

Earlier, Rajasthan, which had gained a 64-run first innings lead, were bundled out for 131 in the second knock thanks to a four-wicket haul by veteran left arm spinner Sunil Joshi. Off spinner C Raghu and N C Appanna took two wickets each.

Karnataka had made 329 in their first knock in reply to Rajasthan's 393.

Rajasthan began from their overnight score of zero for no loss in the second innings but lost wickets in quick intervals falling to the guile of Joshi, who claimed four for 25. V Saxena (32) Nikhil Doru (29) were the top scorers.

The visitors opened their account with three points, after losing their first three matches. Karnataka took their tally to nine from four matches.

While Karnataka clashes with Saurashtra in their next match here from December 9, Rajasthan face Maharashtra at home.
