Kolkata tea auction registers good demand

Kolkata, Dec 04 (UNI) The tea auction held here on November 27-29 registered good demand with substantial trade taking place for the CTC, Darjeeling, Orthodox and Dust tea.

A Kolkata Brokers' Joint Statistics department release issued here today stated that 92,583 packages, containing 29,02,327 kgs CTC tea, were auctioned in which Major Blender and Tata Tea were active.

Western India operated on liquoring teas and bolder brokens and fannings registered export enquiry.

Similarly, 5,433 packages, containing 1,27,022 kgs Darjeeling tea were auctioned in which Major Blender lended good support and local buyers were active while traditional exporters were selective.

About 44,336 packages, containing 10,27,489 kgs Orthodox tea were auctioned in which CIS shippers were active with fair support from Middle East. Major Blender was active on fannings while North India and local buyers operated in this segment.

About 36,269 packages, containing 13,36,401 kgs Dust tea were auctioned in which Major Blender and Tata Tea were active with good support from Western Indian buyers on liquoring teas. Local dealers operated on Dooars varieties while some export interest on Pekoe dust and grainier dust.
