CITU to hold mass rally in Tripura on Dec 5

Agartala, Dec 4: The CPI(M)-backed trade union CITU in Tripura will organise a public rally here tomorrow.

CITU officials here today said that 42 trade unions had organised separate rallies and conventions across the state in the past few months and recommended a charter of demands, which would be highlighted in the state level rally tomorrow. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and CITU All India president M K Pande would address the rally.

Meanwhile, a delegation of CPI(M) MPs, led by party Lok Sabha leader Basudeb Acharia called on Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh yesterday and handed over a nine-point charter of demands for the development of the state, including the demand for extension of railway lines from Agartala to Sabroom, expeditious four laning of NH-44 from Churaibari to Sabroom and for early implementation of the Monarchuk and Palatana Power projects.

The charter of demands was signed by 6.5 lakh persons on behalf of 26 Mass Organisations in Tripura, party sources here said.
