Shimla, Dec 4 (UNI) A rebel BJP leader today accused the BJP of pressurising him to withdraw his candidature from the Kasumpati assembly constituency of Himachal Pradesh where elections are to be held on December 19.
Rebel BJP leader Roop Dass Kashyap in press conference here said, ''The BJP leaders are trying to pressurise me to withdraw my candidature from the constituency from where it has fielded Mr Tarsem Bharti who has joined the party recently after being a member of five to six parties,'' He said, yesterday on the last day of the withdrawal of the candidature, about four vehicles of the BJP workers tried to trap him in their cavalcade near Tara Devi and followed him up to the Ghanahatti and Dhami to pressurise him to take back his name.
''However, I was saved only due to the support from the local people and my supporters who kept those people at bay,'' he claimed.
He said following sustained pressure on him by the BJP leaders, he could not make it to the election office yesterday to get a symbol allotted to him and had to send his activists there.
Terming the present Congress MLA's tenure as a failure, Mr Kashyap, who is popularly referred as RD, said that not even a single inch of new road was built during the Congress government's tenure and no new bus started for the far flung villages of the constituency.
He said the Congress that had ignored the development of this rural constituency and the BJP that had para trooped a leader from outside would suffer its consequences at the hustlings.
