Tirunelveli, Dec 4 (UNI) As many as 1,200 volunteers of the AIADMK, including 200 women, staged a slogan shouting demonstration to protest against the State Government's decision to implement seven-year-life time rule fixed for the tourist cars and vans, near railway junction, here today.
The demonstration, organised by the party's Tirunelveli district unit was headed by former Tamil Nadu Minister and General Secretary of J Jayalalithaa Federation Wing Thalavai Sundaram.
Speaking on the occasion, Thalavai Sundaram said under the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Rule 169-A, the lifetime of the tourist cars and vans had been fixed at seven years. But, the State Transport Commissioner through a circular addressed to the Regional Transport Officer cancelled the 20-year-old directive to pave way for implementation of the rule, which would severely affect the vehicle owners, drivers and mechanics.
Strongly condemning the scrapping of the rule, the AIADMK leader urged the State Government to revoke the cancellation of the rule immediately.
