Rajkot, Dec 4 (UNI) In the run-up to the assembly polls, as many as 58 companies of para-military forces have been deployed in the 11 assembly segments of Rajkot district to ensure free and fair elections.
Two companies of para-military forces staged a flag march in sensitive areas of Rajkot today. The flag march would continue till December 9, Inspector General of Police (Rajkot Range) V V Rabari told UNI today. A flag march was also conducted at Aditiyana and in Porbandar.
Mr Rabari said a CRPF company has undertaken foot as well as vehicle patrolling in the entire district.
He said the para-military forces have also undertaken flag march in Surendranagar and Jamnagar districts.
Fourty-seven Companies of para-military forces have been deployed in Jamnagar and 38 companies at Surendranagar district, Mr Rabari said.
Deputy commissoner of Police Khursheed Ahmed has said 16 companies of para-military forces were deployed in Rajkot city, including six of them for Rajkot rural. They have staged flag march in the sensitive and hyper sensitive areas of the constituency.
The first batch of CRPF personnel, along with the state armed police marched through the sensitive areas of the city yesterday.
Para-military forces will be deployed at booths set up in sensitive areas as well as in buildings having more then three polling booths, Mr Khursheed said, adding that Policemen and homeguards would assist them.
Mr Rabari said preventive action had been taken against 27,000 people in Rajkot, Surendranagar and Jamnagar districts. Where arms license holders deposited their weapons.
Twelve companies of para-military forces have arrived at Porbandar to ensure free and fair conduct of the assembly elections, slated on December 11 for the first phase, official sources said.
