Agartala, Dec 3: The Agartala police has launched an investigation into the alleged insincere acts of a senior surgeon of Tripura, following complaints by a patient.
The complaint was lodged by the patient for certain "insicerity" on the doctor's part during a laparoscopic surgery in a private nurshing home here. Reportedly, the patient had been suffering, following the procedure that was conducted about oe and halfyears back.
Police here today said that photojournalist Bapi Roychoudhury had filed an FIR against the state's leading surgeon Dr Pratap Sannyal, who had conducted a gall bladder operation on Mr Roychoudhury's wife Shrabani Deb in January 2006.
The victim alleged that Dr Sannyal had failed to remove the corrugated drain pipe from the patient's abdomen, which had been inserted during the procedure owing to his insincerity.
Mrs Deb started experiencing some complications few days after the operation and accordingly it was brought to the notice of Dr Sannyal, but he refused to make any further clinical investigation of the patient, Mr Roychoudhury alleged.
However, a foreign body was found during investigation in October last in the patient's right lower abdominal wall, part of which extended intra-abdominally. Nevertheless, Dr Sannyal allegedly refused to accept the findings of report and misbehaved with the patient and his family.
Finally, an eight-inch corrugated drain pipe was removed by doctors at a private nursing home at Salt Lake in Kolkata on October 30 last.
Doctors at this nursing home, reportedly admitted that it had been inserted after operation but had not been duly removed, which caused physiological harm of the patient body.
