Akola, Maharashtra, Dec 3 (UNI) Pathological laboratories run by persons having DMLT qualification are illegal, President of Maharashtra Pathologist and Microbiologist Association Dr Sandeep Yadav and Dr Harish Sarode said.

Speaking at a joint press conference here yesterday, they alleged that running of such laboratories is illegal and demanded that the State Government adopt a strict policy to prevent the growth of such illegal laboratories in the private sector.

On October 10 last, the High Court in its interim order had said that people with educational qualification like DMLT or equivalent technical education are not be eligible to run pathological laboratories independently, they said.

However, they admitted that laboratory technicians and DMLT holders, recognised by the Indian Medical Council, are allowed to run such pathological laboratories.

They further asserted that the pathologists, who obtained a post-graduate degree in pathology (after MBBS) or a diploma, have a moral and legal right to run such laboratories.

Pathology is an important subject in medical faculty that enables doctors to correctly diagnose a disease, they informed.

They further appealed to people to take pathological reports only from expert pathologists having a post-graduate degree after MBBS.

People are being cheated by DMLT or equivalent courses, they alleged.
