Maoists plan to lure tribal youths in Orissa

Malkangiri, Dec 3 (UNI) The Maoist groups in Southern Orissa have geared up activities to lure more youths, particularly from tribal pockets, to their fold during the Peoples Guerilla Army(PGA) week.

Sources here said the Maoists were planning to induct more than two thousand youths into different groups in naxal dominated Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput districts during the period.

Like previous years the naxalits groups in Gudari,Gunpur,Muniguda, Bissamcuttack, Chandrapur, Padmapur area in Rayagada, Kalimela, Chitrokonda, Motu, Padia in Malkangiri and Bandhugam, Naryanpatan, Patangi in Koraput district were working overtime to spread their ideologies to lure the tribal youths.

The naxalites cadres were seen pasting posters, putting up banners and distributing leaflets in remote villages to woo the locals to join their army to fight against the government.

Despite heavy police patrolling in naxalite belts, meetings were being conducted by top ranking Maoists to motivate the locals.

Although top Maoists leaders have assured not to harm the public in tribal areas during PGA week, the district administration was not taking any chance.

The security personnel have become extra cautious after recovery of huge quantity of explosives in Malakangiri and series of violence in neighboring Chattisgarh recently.

The police administration of KBK district was in touch with their counterparts in Chattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh and sharing intelligence reports.

Despite the assurance from the Maoists the road communication was seriously affected in Raygada for the second day today as commuters did not venture to go out fearing attack on them.

Senior police officials were assessing the situation South eastern Range DIG S K Nath said police have strengthened its position and no untoward incident was reported from any pocket so far.
