Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 3(UNI) Kerala Food and Civil Supplies Minister C Divakaran today said the Government would take effective measures to check skyrocketing price of rice in the state.
Talking to newsersons here, he said the Supplyco would open three outlets exclusively for rice in Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi.
Mr Divakaran said the Government was planning to buy rice directly from Andhra Pradesh and sell it at a subsidised price of Rs ten per kg, in the wake of shooting up of rice price, which was now Rs 20 per kg.
The Food Minister said discussions in this regard had been made with his counterpart in Andhra Pradesh and accordingly they would collect rice for the State.
Mr Divakaran said the Government had sanctioned a sum of Rs 50 crore to the State-owned Supplyco as subsidy to import rice.
Besides, the Government would also procure essential commodities for production centres in North as a measure to distribute quality items at the lowest price, he added.
