Dell's TN facility to cater to domestic market: Official
Chennai, Dec 3 (UNI) Top computer maker Dell today said the PCs being manufactured at its facility in Sriperumbudur, near here, will cater to the needs of the domestic market and increase computer penetration.
In an informal chat with journalists after calling on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at the latter's Gopalapuram residence here, Dell Senior Vice-President, Global Facilities, Mr Kip Thomson said ''whatever we produce here is only for domestic consumption as PC penetration is only 2.3 per cent in India as against 80 to 90 per cent in other parts of the world.
''We want to improve the penetration rate in India and bring it on par with other nations,'' he added.
Refusing to divulge the quantum of investments, he said the company's investment plans were progressing in tune with its commitments.
''We are happy to invest in Tamil Nadu. Whatever we have committed, we have invested,'' he claimed.
Mr Thomson said the Chief Minister was very happy with the progress made by the Dell facility here.
