Del Govt prohibits strike in Govt hospitals for 6 months,imposes ESM

New Delhi, Dec 3 (UNI) The Delhi Government today prohibited doctors in Government hospitals of the city from going on a strike for a period of next six months.

A notification issued by Delhi Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna declared health services in the national Capital territory as Essential Services for a period of six months thereby prohibiting the strike or agitation by the employees of Hospitals/dispensaries functioning under the administrative control of the Delhi Government for a period of six months.

''The Lt Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi in exercise of the powers conferred under section 3 read with section 4 A of the Haryana essential Services Maintenance Act, 1974 (Haryana Act No. 40 of 1974) as extended to the National Capital Territory of Delhi vide Government of India, Ministry of Home affairs Notification No.

G.S.R. 526 (E) dated the 30th July, 1993, hereby the Health services as essential services and prohibits the strike or agitation by the employees of Hospitals/dispensaries functioning under the administrative control of Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi for a period of six months in National Capital Territory of Delhi,''the notification said.

According to the notification, prohibiting the strike by employees of Hospitals and dispensaries functioning under the administrative control of Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi was necessary and expedient in public interest.

The last few months have witnessed agitations in many Government hospitals, causing severe inconvenience to the patients undergoing tyreatment or coming for treatment there.
