Court quashes walk-in interview

Itanagar, Dec 3 (UNI) Gauhati High Court today quashed the walk-in interview called by the department of Tax and excise(T&E) here in September this year for the Group C and D category.

The Itanagar Bench of the Court has directed the Department to 'precede with the recruitment afresh strictly in accordance with the prescribed in the rules', sources said.

Earlier, the Court had stayed the interview. The verdict issued recently had stated that the state government has recruitment rules which, clearly provides for filling up the posts through a written test followed by a viva-voce. Hence, the walk-in-interview was not suitable under the law, it observed.

A group of nine unemployed youths had challenged the walk-in interview through a writ petition. The court in its final verdict observed that for the posts in question, whch were Upper Division Clerks, Assistant Inspectors (T&E), Lower Division lerks-cum-Computer operator, constable and chowkidar in the department of T&E, sources added.
