ajkot, Dec 3 (UNI) Taking strong objection to the distribution of Congress tickets for the coming assembly elections in Gujarat to the rich and the influential, former party MP Balwant Manwar and 39 other members from different parts of Saurashtra region have resigned from the Congress.

Talking to mediapersons here today, Mr Manwar said injustice had been done to them as the party had given tickets to the rich and the influential people without following the set norms and rules.

Mr Manwar alleged that without looking in to the winnability of the candidates, tickets were distributed to lesser known candidates and the Koli community was ignored.

A letter, written to AICC President Sonia Gandhi, copies of which were distributed to the media alleged that tickets were given to candidates who were not capable of winning the elections, he said.

He said the decision to resign had been taken collectively after they have realised that young and educated candidates had also been ignored by the party.

The 39 members, including seven women, mostly from Surendranagar and Rajkot districts, were also present at the press conference.
