Churchill Brothers to clash with Dempo in league

By Staff

Margao, Dec 3: A keen contest is expected, when defending champions Dempo sports club cross swords with Durand cup champions Churchill Brothers in their third round match of the ONGC I- league championship to be played here at Nehru stadium Fatorda tomorrow.

Both the teams are tied with six points each having won both their ties so far and looked menancing both on paper and performance. All eyes will be on Churchill's foreign strikers Mboyo Iyomi and Odafe Okolie and Dempo's Nigerian duo Edeh Chidi and Renti Martin. All have perfomed well in the last two outings against their opponents.

As both the teams will battle it out for full points, it is going to be an intersting match. Churchill hold the psychological edge over Dempo as they scored win in the super cup final last month, while it will be a revenge tie for Dempo.

Churchill, riding high on confidence after winning 5-1 against strong Mahindra United, Mumbai and 3-0 against local Sporting Club De Goa and have been impressive during the last week slamming 8 goals in two matches.

The Churchill duo will be backed by the fire scheming trio of Reisangmi Vasum, Khemtang Paite and Chitrasen. They also have strong defence consisting of Robert Lalthamba, Naoba Singh, Gouramangi Singh.

Dempo too have very good attacking line up spearheaded by Nigerian duo Edeh Chidi, Renti Martin alongwith Anthony Pereira.

Helping them in the middle will be Brazilian Roberto Mendes Silva who is a fine play maker, Climax Larence, Nicolau Borges or Jerry Zirsanga.

The defence too has performed creditably so far but the real test will be tomorrow when they face the likes of Mboyo and Odafe.

Dempo Coach Arman Colaco is optimistic about his team's chances in tomorrow's match. He said his boys know that it is a crucial match, they will definitely put up a good show and avenge the defeat.

Churchill coach Karim Bencherifa said Dempo is a strong team and it will be toughest opponent for us. We will play our own game and would make all out efforts to maintain the lead.
