Tirupati, Dec 3 (UNI) Temple Protection Movement (TRM) convener M V Sundara Rajan today said the recent Endowments Amendment Bill introdeced by Andhra Pradesh Government will help restore the past glory of the temple system in the state.
Addressing a news conference here, Mr Rajan said the Bill would guarantee autonomy in administration to small temples as they would be withdrawn from the direct control of the Endowment Department.
He said the Amendment Bill-2007 was introduced after a select committee under the chairmanship of the Endowments Minister J Ratnakara Rao cleared it.
As per the proposed amendment, the Endowments Administration would be an autonomous board ' Dharmika Parishad', of which the Endowments Minister would be the chairman and Endowments Commissioner the secretary.
Unlike the 30/87 Endowments Act, which reduced the role of archakas (priests), the Bill reaffirmed thier role. ''Section 65 A of the Act provides for raising a separate fund for paying salaries to archakas and temple employees'' he said.
