Hyderabad, Dec 3 (UNI) Six children died at the Niloufer Government Hospital for children as the junior doctors boycotted work and staged a dharna demanding suspension of Karwan MLA Afsar Khan for allegedly manhandling their colleagues.
The Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) launched an agitation last night when some of them were allegedly beaten up by the MLA's supporters for allegedly denying to give treatment to a child.
The ward boys of the hospital claimed that since last night six children had died following the boycott.
However, hospital Superintendent Narasimha Rao told newspersons that at least 100 children were being admitted to the hospital everyday. Each doctor was dealing with five to six critical cases regularly.
He said all the regular doctors were attending their duties and providing treatment to children admitted to the hospital. There was no adverse affect on medical services in the hospital following the junior doctors' strike.
Meanwhile, the talks between State Health Minister G Aruna and JUDA leaders failed even after the State Government assured to order a probe into the alleged attack on doctors.
Speaking to newspersons here, Ms Aruna said the Government had given assurance to JUDA that security would be provided round the clock at the hospital and action would be taken against the MLA after the probe report was submitted.
Demanding that the Government provide police security at the hospital and arrest the MLA immediately, the junior doctors staged a 'dharna' at Gandhi Medical College in the city.
Meanwhile, the medicos boycotted the classes staged a dharna and took out rallies in Warangal, in protest against the attack on junior doctors in Kakatiya Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS).
