4 killed, three injured in two road accidents in Barnala

Barnala, Dec 3 (UNI) Four people, including an NRI, were killed and three, two of them children, were seriously injured this morning in two accidents in this district.

Canada-based NRI, Roop Singh (65), his family friend Jasbir (38) and driver Karmajit Singh (27) were killed on the spot when the hired jeep collided head-on with a canter coming from opposite side near Pakhon Kanchia about 0430 hrs this morning, police said.

Jagmer Singh of Jagraon, a cousin accompanying Roop Singh to Delhi to make arangements for the marriage of the NRI's son, was seriously injured in the accident.

He was rushed to the Barnala Civil hospital, where his condition has been described as serious by the doctors.

According to police, the jeep was badly mangled in the accident and cutters had to be used to take out the victims.

The driver of the canter was absconding. A case has been registered by the police under sections 279, 337, 304 (A) and 427 of the IPC, sources said.

In another accident, Jagtar Singh riding a motorbike with two children, died when hit by a pick-up van of a private company near Dhaula village at 0700 hrs in the morning.

The man, Jagtar Singh died on the spot while his teenager daughter and nephew were injured seriously. The children have been rushed to the Rajindra hospital, Patiala.

The driver of the bus, identified as Inderjit Singh, has been absconding.

A case under sections 279, 304 (A), 337, 338 and 427 of the IPC, has been registered, police sources said.
