Kolhapur, Dec 2 (UNI) Infosys Foundation chairperson Dr Sudha Murthy, Bollywood actress and Rajya Sabha MP Hema Malini and Bajaj Auto chairperson and Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj were today honoured by the Fuel Instruments and Engineering (FIE) Foundation with this year's 'Rashtrabhushan' awards at a glittering function held at Ichalkaranji in this district.
The Rashtrabhushan award, instituted by the Ichalkaranji-based FIE, carries a cash award of Rs five lakh and is given to people from diverse fields in recognition of their contribution to it. The awardees were presented the prize money at the hands of Mr Keichi Ara, an industrialist from Japan.
After the felicitation, Mrs Murthy, the wife of Infosys founder Dr Narayana Murthy, announced that she would donate the entire cash prize along with additional Rs five lakh to five different social organisations -- Helpers of the Handicapped, Kolhapur, Sanmati Matimand Vikas Centre, Ichalkaranji Medical Association, Seva Bharati Institute, Apate Wachan Mandir, all four based in Ichalkaranji.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Murthy, who is known both in the fields of social work and literature, said the FIE award had given her further encouragement to discharge her responsibility towards worthy causes for betterment of people.
Hema Malini, in her speech, thanked FIE Foundation for honouring persons from various fields and said she would also spend the entire cash prize for social causes.
FIE Foundation pioneer industrialist Panditrao Kulkarani welcomed the chief guest and awardees in his introduction remarks.
