Srinagar, Dec 2 (UNI) Breakaway Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani today accused the National Conference, the main opposition political party in Jammu and Kashmir, of joining hands with the Centre in getting the Islamic teachings abolished from the academic curriculum in the Valley.
Speaking at a seminar -- Cultural Aggression And How To Combat It -- organised by the Dukhtaran-e-Millat (Daughters of Faith) here, he said the NC leadership had always betrayed the people of Kashmir.
''They (NC leaders) are the enemies of the people in Kashmir.'' Mr Geelani said the NC leaders were making an issue of his participation in the Assembly elections in the state.
''I did contest the elections...My only intention was to fight the so-called Indian socialism and secularism and at the Assembly level. I fought the Assembly elections to try and establish an Islamic government in Jammu and Kashmir,'' he added.
The breakaway Hurriyat chairman further said he fought the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir to save the innocent people who were being oppressed and exploited in the name of 'Kashmiriyat'.
