Shimla, Dec 2 (UNI) The Election Commission has set up a special booth for leprosy patients at Kasauli Assembly constituency of Himachal Pradesh to ensure that they were not denied their right to franchise in the elections.
The decision would ensure that 13 patients staying at Leprosy Home at Kasauli cast their votes in the elections for the first time, an election official said in a release here.
The booth would allow Ms Kamali Devi, Ms Kala Vati, Mr Satpal, Mr Ganga Ram, Mr Lakshmi Ram, Sukh Nand, Mr Phagu Ram, Mr Godu Ram, Mr Jeetu, Mr Ram Singh, Mr Brij Lal, Mr Jubbal Singh and Mr Vir Singh to caste their votes.
The patients were keenly following the political developments in the state and were eager to cast their votes on December 19, he said.
Besides, the EC would ensure that all polling booths were easily accessible by senior citizens, patients, handicapped persons and others, It said.
The spokesman said the poll panel had also set up special booths at Kasumpati and Solan constituencies of the state for female voters.
