Badal asks NRIs to strenghten education and health sector

Ludhiana, Dec 2 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today called upon the NRIs to contribute in providing education and health care facilities in the state especially to the less privileged sections of the society.

Addressing a public gathering here after laying the foundation stone of Sri Guru Amar Das Hospital and Research Institute being set up by Baba Jaswant Singh Trust, Mr Badal assured the NRIs that the state government would facilitate them in establishing state-of-the-art institutions in education and health care sectors through ensuring all the clearances in a fast track mode.

The Chief Minister also said the state government had initiated a novel scheme for the over all development of the villages of NRIs, in which, the state government would contribute a matching grant equivalent to the amount invested by the NRIs.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Badal urged Baba Jaswant Singh Trust to set up more such institutions in the state to strengthen the social infrastructure in terms of education and health care for the poor and needy. He also impressed upon the management of the upcoming research institute to provide free treatment to the economically poor patients by fixing a quota for them. On the occasion, Mr Badal announced Rs 10 lakh for the hospital.
