Tezpur, Dec 2 (UNI) All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union(AAPSU) president Kanu Bagam today said blockades and strikes in Assam tended to affect the supply link and emergency services in the entire North East.

Talking to reporters here, Mr Bagam said, ''When Assam shuts down or there is a rail or road blockade, the supply chain to other NE states also get disrupted. Moreover, patients going to Guwahati for treatment face a lot of difficulty and are left stranded.

He made this statement in the wake of recent statewide bandhs and road blockades, a trend that has been set over the years and affected proper functioning of necessary services in several parts of Assam. The students' leader pointed that Assam was the gateway to the NE and any disruption in its administrative functioning was bound to have an impact on the other NE states.

He also urged the organisations to refrain from calling bandhs and call a bandh only when all other democratic mode of protests have failed.
