Sonia questions Modi's claim of development in Gujarat
Navsari, Gujarat, Dec 1: Mounting a scathing attack on Narendra Modi-led BJP Government in Gujarat, Congress president Sonia Gandhi questioned the Saffron party's claim that the poll-bound state had witnessed all-round development under its rule. Calling the Modi-Government an 'insensitive and corrupt regime', Ms Gandhi alleged, ''The crime against women are increasing and anti-social elements feel secure since they are getting state protection. Today the rulers of Gujarat are merchants of fear and death''.
Addressing a public meeting at village Jamanpada in Chikli Assembly segment today, Ms Gandhi said that a state does not progress through printing of advertisements and through display of coins.
''I know that the people of Gujarat are impatient for a change.
A sensitive government is needed in Gujarat that can take care of all sections of people, including adivasis. I have come to seek your janadesh (mandate) so that Gujarat once again becomes a peaceful and progressive state,'' Ms Gandhi said.
''I am sure, Congress will get a majority, and will usher in a new future for Gujarat,'' she said and added, ''Your vote will bring peace to Gujarat to make it a state of prosperity and equality.'' Ms Gandhi was accompanied by Union Textiles Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela, Gujarat Pradesh Congress President Bharatsinh Solanki and Opposition Leader in the Assembly Arjun Modhavadia.
