ONGC to face Services in men's final, S Rly face UPL-RoI in women's

Mumbai, Dec 1 (UNI) UPL-Rest of India (RoI) will take on Southern Railway, Chennai in the women's final, while Services will face ONGC in the men's final, in the 3rd All India United Phosphorous Savio Cup Basketball Tournament, at Don Bosco School, Matunga.

In a surprisingly one-sided Super League match, National champions Services sent Karnataka crashing to their second defeat and out of contention following a convincing 101-67 win, after leading 53-38 at half-time.

Playing their second tie in the four-team league, Karnataka who were still recovering from their narrow 76-77 loss to ONGC in the opener on Thursday, found the going tough against an aggressive Services who initiated constant raids to stay ahead and in complete control.

Bipin (18), Jairaj (14), Settu (13) and Dalip Kumar (10) scored the most for the winners, while Varun (18), Nixon (16) and Deiva Kumar (12) contributed the most for Karnataka.

ONGC beat Railways 94-87 in another men's super league clash to confirm their face-off against Services in the title round.

Women's defending champion Southern Railway remained on course for their third consecutive Savio Cup title when they beat Malaysia XI 81-45 in their concluding league tie for their third consecutive win in the four-team league.

Southern Railway will take on UPL-Rest of India in the women's championship round following the latter's impressive 75-58 win over Maharashtra in the concluding league match in the battle for the second spot.

Maharashtra and UPL-Rest of India had a win and a loss each before they went into their match. The top two in the league qualified for the final.

RESULTS: Men's Super League: Services 101 (Bipin 18, Jairaj 14, Settu 13, Dalip Kumar 10) bt Karnataka 67 (Varun 18, Nixon 16, Deiva Kumar 12). HT: 53-38, ONGC 94 (Riyazuddin 24, Mohit Bhandari 17, Murali Krishna 15, Trideep Rai 14) bt Railways 87 (Snehpal Singh 25, Jasjot Singh 23, Yadwinder Singh 10, Virender 10). HT: 52-31.

WOMEN: Southern Rly 81(Geethu Anna Jose 20, Rajini 12, P. Anitha 12) bt Malaysia XI 45 (Nur Izzati 13, Choo Sook Ping 11). HT: 40-20, UPL-Rest of India 75 (Anju Lakra 24, Seema Singh 10) bt Maharashtra 58 (Jiji John 14, G. Blessen 14) bt HT: 37-26.
