Bangalore, Dec 1 (UNI) An effort that can go a long way in providing jobs to the disabled, Karnataka government will launch a portal that contains the complete list the disabled people in Karnataka who are seeking jobs.

The portal -- karnatakapwdjobs.com, would be launched on December 3 on the occasion of the W'orld Day for Disabled'.

Briefing news persons M V Vedamurthy, Director of Department of Welfare of Disabled and Senior Citizens said the department in a tie up with a New Delhi based NGO 'Partner in Change' had designed the portal that gives the details of all the 36,000 disabled people who had registered their names in different employment exchanges in the state.

"This portal will help the corporate sector, which is now coming forward like never before, to offer jobs to these special people.

Now they can select the candidates as per their requirements. We would be popularising the portal among prospective employers through advertisement and trade and business bodies," he said.

The officials said the disabled were now in a better position to seek jobs as various companies in IT, BT ITeS, hospitality and garment industry were ready to provide them jobs. "We will ask the IT and BT companies to accommodate them," he said.

He said as part of the Disabled Day celebrations, the department would be bringing out the compendium of the department and quarterly magazine 'Hombelaku'.

Partner in Change senior programme Officer Sudipta Bhadra said a study conducted by her organisation revealed that among the 552 companies in the country, including 87 PSUs, only 48 had said that they had provided jobs for disabled persons in their company.
