Kerala to seek Central aid for infrastructure projects

Kochi, Dec 1 (UNI) Kerala Public Works Minister Mons Joseph today said the LDF government will seek increased Central assistance for completing infrastructure projects in the state, including roads.

Speaking at a function here to mark the beginning of Phase Two of the construction of the Venduruthy Bridge, connecting Wellingdon Island to the mainland, Mr Joseph said the construction would be completed in 18 months' time.

He said instructions had been given to all officials to complete the public works projects in a time-bound manner.

The Venduruthy Bridge, to be jointly constructed by the Cochin Port Trust and the Public Works Department, would cost about Rs 37.5 crore.

Later, speaking at a function to mark the inauguration of the 45-day-long 'Grand Kerala Festival', Mr Joseph said the work on the Edapally railway overbridge would be completed before March, 2009.
