Kashmir boys outplay South African counterparts in T20 match

Srinagar, Dec 1 (UNI) Boys from South Africa suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of their counterparts from Kashmir in T20 friendly cricket matches played here today.

The South African boys, who are on a visit to the Kashmir valley, were persuaded by the state Tourism Department to play friendly T20 matches during their stay here.

The proposal was agreed by the visitors and accordingly two matches -- under 19 and under-15 -- were hosted today.

While the under-19 cricket match was played at the Kashmir University grounds, the under-15 contest took place at Delhi Public School (DPS) grounds here.

In the under-19 match, South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Kashmir boys were bowled out for 163 runs in 20 overs.

For the hosts, Khalid scored 41 runs, Irshad 36 while skipper Atif hit 21 runs. Marinus took three wickets while Shelton and John took two each for the visitors.

In reply, South Africa could score just 90 runs at the loss of eight wickets. For the visitors, Bell scored an unbeaten 30 runs followed by Dujon at 14.

For Kashmir, Wahid took three wickets while Irshad scalped two South African batsmen.

In the under-15 match, school boys from Kashmir outplayed their counterparts from South Africa, defeating the visitors by 38 runs.

While the hosts scored 170 runs in their allotted 20 overs, the visitors could manage only 132.
