Bahrain: Indian amnesties to be flown free
Manama,
Dec.1:
Amnesty
seekers
who
can't
afford
to
leave
Bahrain
will
be
given
a
free
flight
ticket
to
India
starting
on
Friday,
a
local
newspaper
has
reported.
India"s Ambassador to Bahrain, Balkrishna Shetty, will choose who can best benefit from the free tickets, the Gulf Daily News reported.
"This does not mean that we want them to leave, but we are only trying to help them not get arrested or used," said Monu Mathew, director of the Indian Institute for Performing Arts who donated the tickets.
"Most
of
them
are
poor
labourers,
who
haven't
seen
their
families
and
wives
for
years
because
they
couldn't
afford
to
go
back," Mathew
added.
