Chennai Superstars tame Kolkata Tigers

Panchkula, Dec 01 (UNI) TVs Chennai Superstars snatched a thrilling six-run verdict as they caged Rishi Cement Kolkata Tigers in the second match of the four million dollar prize money inaugural Indian Cricket League Twenty20 Tournament, a venture of Essel Group, being played at the Tau Devi Lal Cricket Stadium in Sector 3 here today.

Required to score 141 runs for victory, Kolkata Tigers were restricted to 134 for 7 in 20 overs. Kolkata Tigers were virtually tamed as they lost openers Lance Klusener (0) and Darrel Maddy (8) within a space of three deliveries. Shabbir Ahmed (2 for 22) struck the first blow as he forced Maddy gave an edge it to wicketkeeper Chris Read with scorecard reading just eight runs. Two runs later, with his fifth delivery of the third over, Shabbir dismissed Lance Klusener. Shabbir Ahmed's delivery held up a bit and Klusener while ducking gave a catch at mid off to Syed Mohammed.

Down by two wickets, S Das (35, 2x4s) and Craig McMillan (25, 4x4s) studied the innings with a 41-run partnership for the third wicket before McMillan was caught by Chris Law of the bowling of Harvey (2 for 30). Das also departed at team's total of 85. He was caught by Hemanth Kumar of T Kumaran (2 for 23). Abhishek Jhunjunwala (30, 3x4s) made a valliant effort but in vain as Chennai Superstars restricted Kolkata Tigers to 134 for seven.
