To express solidarity with the associate bank staff, officers and employees of different banks staged demonstration here today under the aegies of Madhya Pradesh Bank Employees Association and M P Bank Officers Association.
Meanwhile, at the conciliation meeting held in Mumbai yesterday, All India State Bank of Indore Officers Coordination Committee said the bank management was unilaterally going ahead with the process of merger without consulting the unions.
''The merger is not in the interest of the workmen as it may lead to loss of services to the customers in their area of operation, loss of jobs, closure of various branches and change in the service conditions of members'', the committee apprehended.
On the other hand, the management representatives, however, said no decision had been taken yet regarding merger of State Bank of Indore and other associate banks with SBI. ''There is no move at present of merger'', they said, adding the issue of any merger will be discussed with all parties at the appropriate time and at appropriate level.
The conciliation officer also advised the committee to withdraw the proposed strike on December 3 as it is premature stage for resorting to direct action. The next conciliation proceedings will be held on December 10, committee spokesman said.
