Venugopal removed, T D Dogra takes on as AIIMS' new director

New Delhi, Nov 30 (UNI) Eminent cardiologist P Venugopal was today removed from the post of Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) following President Pratibha Patil giving assent to the AIIMS Act.

Dr T D Dogra has been appointed as the new director of the premier institute.

Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss issued an order appointing Dr Dogra, who is the senior-most professor and HOD of forensic sciences, as the the new director for one month.

The order cites the new AIIMS act which curtails the tenure of the AIIMS director at 65 years. It says Dr Ramadoss, as the President of AIIMS, has the power to appoint temporary director under section 74 of the AIIMS Act.

Meanwhile, the AIIMS governing body and the institute body will meet on December seven and take a decision on the future course of action.
