Southern Naval Base opened to public during 'Navy Mela'

Kochi, Nov 30 (UNI) The Southern Naval Base headquarters here were thrown open to the public today with the inauguration of the annual 'Navy Mela' by Vice-Admiral Sunil K Damle, flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command.

The entire base wore a festive look with colourful flags fluttering along the roads and people from various walks of life, particularly school children, walking around the stalls.

The Mela includes naval exhibits like guns, diving equipment, weapons, various types of armament and ammunition, torpedoes and fire fighting equipment from the various training schools in the naval base.

On display also are models of ships and submarines, communication systems and telescopes.

The Navy Mela will be open to public from November 30 to Dececember two.

Static disply of aircraft and helicopters at the Air Station and ships on South jetty will be open to public viewing from 1000 hrs till 1700 hrs. The public can also witness helicopter flying operations and aero modelling display thrice daily.

There is also an amusement park with games and joy rides. A range of food stalls have also been set up.
